John and I were in the same law school class and endured the rigors of first-year students. The second and third years were much easier and John and I had great fun at weekend parties and drinking beer at the various beer joints around Athens, GA. He was a good friend and will be missed.

I have many fond memories of time spent with my cousin during his time at Emory. I am saddened that he has departed.

I am shocked and saddened to hear about my cousin's death. Of course, my heart goes out to his loved ones. Though we had fallen out of touch, I remember 'Johnny' as a little boy and then a young man. He was a bit older and taught me many things, such as how to dive and water ski. I remember riding back and forth to Savannnah from Atlanta in his green diesel, non-air-conditioned Mercedes. I believe he may have even driven my date and me to my first high school dance! Those are fond memories, and I know he was good person who was much loved by all members of my family--Joan, Barry, Marcy, Beth and Ann.

I guess we are getting old. Our oldest friends are dying. John was my friend and classmate at UGA law school, class of 1973. We lost touch after the 1970's. John did stay in touch will some of our gang. Wally Harvey told me recently that he talked with John not so very long ago. Marty Alpert, who died yesterday, wrote on John's guestbook two weeks ago, how much he missed John. John Achord was one of the funniest people I have ever met. The world is a much more boring place now that John is gone. He will be missed.

When I was told we had lost John, I could only remember the great times and friendship of our youth. No brighter, funnier, or more caring friend lived. I can see John and Marty Alpert, also gone, laughing and joking while studying for the bar exam. My respects to Laura and John's family.
- Walter, Jefferson, GA

Laura , I was so sorry to hear of John's untimely death. It has been many years since I last saw him but I remember well his sharp 'legal' mind and his biting wit. You probably remember John started out as a young lawyer in my Dad's office in the mid 1970's and that is where I came to know him. I am so sorry for your loss. Chip
